TripAdvisor – This was my favourite activity I did with my friends in Cape Town. Absolutely amazing. The crew was incredibly friendly. The place is amazing, there are hundreds (if not thousands) of seals and I felt completely safe. The seals would come incredibly close to you and play around in circles. I really recommend it…
Animal Ocean are the seal snorkeling experts and are dedicated to getting you in the water with these fantastic creatures. Our team of marine guides are only too keen to share the beauty of the ocean and its most playful mammals with you. Our 8 m Rib (inflatable boat) takes up to 10 snorkelers and will get you to the seals quickly and safely. Cape Fur seals are most active and abundant in the heat of Cape Town’s summer. So beat the heat – join us!
Seal Snorkeling in Cape Town happens on the Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula at Duiker Island, Hout Bay. This island is not known for any Great White shark activity as it is surrounded by cold water (8C – 15C), shallow kelp forests and home to relatively fewer seals (5000) than colonies elsewhere on the coast. We have never seen a Great White shark on any of our trips and this is observation is echoed by the seal-viewing ships that have frequented the same area for over 30 years.
Trips dependant on weather and ocean conditions. We aim to inform snorkelers if their trip is canceled 24 hours before your arrival time. However we will cancel on the day if the ocean conditions are not safe to snorkel. We issue refund in full, but they do take a while to process, please be patient. If you are concerned, please call us a day or two before to check the ocean conditions and if trips may be canceled.
Cape Fur seals occur naturally on islands around the southern African coast and are found nowhere else in the world. Duiker Island in Hout Bay is home to 5000-10000 seals and lies within the Karbonkelberg marine protected area, part of Table Mountain National Park. These seals are not fed or trained, they behave naturally and interact with visitors on their own terms. This is a wildlife adventure that brings you nose-to-nose with playful and inquisitive wild animals in their natural habitat, and affords you the privilege of viewing them on their own terms.

Pass through the boom gate and turn right. 100 m ahead of you is a parking lot where you will find the Animal Ocean boat and equipment ready to go.
